Perhaps, you will be interested to know that the founder of this website (me) really likes hip-hop (especially French) and occasionally enjoys break-dancing.
I am Russian. |

Many people neither have time to watch MTV nor desire to do this. I know many peopole that listen same things as me.
Western artists and groups: ABBA, Nightwish, Within Temptation, Metallica, Depeche Mode, Jazz & Blues, Delerium, Deep Forest, G.E.N.E, Sandra, Phill Collins, Celine Dion, Blackmore's Night, Rammstein, Madonna, etc
Russian artists and groups: Konstantin Nickolsky, DDT, VIA-gra, Chaif, Agata Kristy, Didula, Tatu, Aria, Olga Romanova, Valeriy Meladze, etc
But yes, russian pop-music mainly shit. |

I thought pop music was the most popular form in Russia. Guess I'm wrong. Personally, I prefer Russian punk/ska, but am having trouble finding bands to follow, as I'm still in the U.S. (moving to Pietr this summer).
on another note, Ender: 1. depeche mode is exquisite and 2. is your name in reference to the Ender series by Orson Scott Card? |

Actually it is popular as I often hear it on the streets. But very many from these pop groups will be very quickly forgotten after few years of career. I guess same happen for America and Europe. But there is no significant overweight of popular music against other genres. It much promoted on TV and radio, however I know many people who switch channels when they hear someone from "russian pop stars". Especially if different channel show Discovery films or local news.
On another side russian rock groups like DDT active for many years and they are very popular.

It is nickname. Yes. Because I always liked strategy games, it was given to me by one friend in order to make difference between two Andrews in certain company. |

you're right, it does seem like the response to pop music is the same in Russia as America (and probably the majority of other countries around the world). And I'll have to check out DDT. They have to be good to still be popular after 20 years...
That's awesome about your name! Ender's Game, as well as the entire Ender series, is among my favorite books of all time. Crazy that your name is really Andrew as well (just like his). I was given a nickname for a job I had as a teacher last year for the same reason as you, but it wasn't anything even remotely as fun as yours.
Thanks for the well-wishes!
I hope your day is going well! Talk again soon! |

I live in Russia, Samara sity. In my hood we listen russian and sometimes american gangsta rap. Peoples interest depend on place where they live. If man live in rich hood, he listen a pop-shit or RnB. If it is a poor place he listen a "shanson" ("blatnyak"-rus.). "Blatnyak" its a gangsta music. Mainly this music listen peoples, why comeback from prison.
P.S. Russin pop-music listen only defective degenerates and motherf*ckers. Mainly its a womens.
(sory 4 my english, i just learn it). |
