Well, Moscow and St. Peter-rg completely differs from all other Russia. Do you know of it ?

Ciao mentat.Smile Yes, I know a couple people from there. Swingers.Smile I just wanted to participate in this forum to see other points of view. I am just doing some research, and then when I gather all information, I will make my decision on what to do, where to go, etc. I plan to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg, but maybe on two different occasions, and depends on availability of friends. I just feel conflicted about how some people are open in Moscow about homosexuals, while others, straight couples, are shady about it. I am a very sensible individual, but I also am my own woman. I don't like to be made to feel like I have to defend myself, and of course, being in a foreign city and exploring everything else, I just wanted to see if being out was significant or not. It's all.Smile Thanks.

Where does this common, unfavorable perception of Americans come from? The media? Government? Personal experience--related question (re: personal experience): are these Americans providing the experience found outside of the business realm?

Why such gross generalizations? And, please explain this idea of American superficiality in terms of relationships--the soul is universal.

These interviews are incredibly interesting to me. I love the Russian peoples, the culture, the Russian soul...wish the general census here would give us Americans a chance! The American people, mostly, are not represented by the US government or celebrity. I must admit, however, that I believe many Americans don't know how lucky we are to have some economic freedom and security; but, there is a wide divsion between the rich and the middle-class, and an even more distinctive division between the rich and the poor. Still, there is a middle-class, and I recognize that; although, in our current economic regression, the middle class appears to be shrinking and sinking. See, the government is easily bought and sold here, and the media reports only what they are paid to report. You must search for the truth. Please don't make sweeping assumptions--that leaves no room for love.

First of all. Russians usually do not separate business realm and personal relations realm. If you do something unpleasant in business expect reasonable answer in both areas business and personal. When I meet with Americans in person it seems they are nice people. Somewhat different - with different traditions and habits. Even if these traditions appear to be beyond borders of courtesy it is understandable.

Of course everything we know about USA we know from mass-media. Very small percent of people have enough personal information about USA. I think this unfavorable perception of Americans come from their two-faced foreign politics. Or at least how it depicted by mass-media. They say about peace, democracy, order, prosperity but they:
1. Invaded into Aughanistan. Results: country in disorder (this is not important because there was not order either), drug traffic through southern borders of Russia raised up to 5 times (FIVE!!!).
2. Invaded into Iraq. Results: country in disorder, almost in state of civil war, from 150 thousands to 1 million of citizens are killed. Notice lie about weapons of mass destruction as cause of invasion. It looks like they are trying to play same scenario with Iran.
3. Support governments that are aggressive against Russia (Ukraine, Georgia). Finance "humans right orgranisations" which usually throw the shit towards the russian government and towards Russia in common. "Who pays - those orders the music."
4. Slowly encircle Russia by their military bases and installations (for example radar in Poland - defence againsta Iran is the laughable excuse).
5. They dare to criticise our elections while they unable to properly count votes on their own elections.
6. Some of their famous people say extremely stupid (or simply bad) things about other nations. For example Sharon Stone about China and Tibet.
7. Western (note here - average Russian guy rarely separate Britain from USA and other European countries, for average Russian all western mass-media generalised by single word - "they") media says something unpleasant about Russia on regular basis. If one idiot from England offer us to change our constitution then shadow falls on USA also. If "they" thrown shit to us, why should we love "them"?
8. There are many western movies where Russians are depicted as crazy bastards or barbarians. Russians become quite sensitive when someone talks about them as about barbarians.
9. There is PC in USA. Things should be named by their own names.

... This list can be continued.

I not sure if I understand this correctly. What do you mean under term of "American superficiality"?

People usually are judged by their deeds.

Peace-loving democratic Georgia which war-machine is paid and supported by peace-loving and democratic USA government now bringing peace, law and freedom to the South-Ossetia on the shells of Grad (Hailstorm) artillery systems. Tskhinvali city destroyed, russian peacekeepers killed. Now I sure you will understand where does this common, unfavorable perception of Americans come from. From your government and from actions of those who are supported by U.S. govt.

This is most recent example. Need we say more?

P.S. I've seen results of Grad work when I've been in army. Usually ashes. Only Buratino (Pinoccio) is worse. It produces scorched dust.

I don't know anybody who loves to shout. Where did you get this impression?

It is because they smile when they are really happy. No fake smiles. If they have neutral attitude to you they won't smile to you.
