Hi, I was wondering if people saw the solar eclipse today that swept across Russia, with the total eclipse just missing Novosibirsk though I think they got much better than the 9% eclipse we had in northern Ireland. The next total eclipse is on 1st August 2008, and Novosibirsk is directly on the total eclipse path for that one. Is anyone else here planning a trip to Novosibirsk for that, or better yet, is there anyone living in Novosibirsk who would be interested in the eclipse? It's over two years away, I know, but people plan early for these things

Here in Canada there is this guy on public television who talks about the stars and eclipses and other such astrological (or is it astronomical?) stuff. He is this old fruity guy who I'm certain is gay as Ben Affleck, and who looks a lot like Kurt Vonnegut (white curly hair, big white moustache, god-awful Cosby sweaters). Anyways, he's the coolest guy in the world because he obviously loves his job more than anything else in the world, and it shows when he sits on the edge of the moon and points out the constellations to disinterested drunks, shut-ins, and children (or whoever it is that watches public television).
Well, the point is that you remind me much of the fruity old star man OverlordKain, and I mean that in the best way possible. Right on. |

Hi,
I was at the total eclipse in Cornwal in 99 and I think travelling to Novosibirsk in 2008 is an awesome idea. Start planning it now, cos otherwise you'll never get accomodation or transport!
What is the exact date of the eclipse?

OMG is that the one where weird little music plays, and the guy is on for like 10 mins and he is suspended in space pointing everything out and looks like hes wearing a toupee?  |

Yes, it seems that all the planet is going to come to Novosibirsk in Aug,1 2008 for the total sun eclipse. It's better to organize your visit in advance, otherwise you may end up observing the Eclipse from the tent in the field

| It is less than 1 year until the total solar eclipse now. Are there any residents with good local knowledge? I'm trying to avoid joining a tour group as there may be 4 of us travelling together. |
