Hi,

we were just wondering whether there is a link between Ulan-Ude (Transsib) and Severobaikalsk (BAM)... appareantly there is a flight, but we couldn't really find prices, and also it said somewhere that there is a bus over the frozen baikal lake in winter, again without details. Does anyone know how to make the journey?? Smile

Thank you very much + greetings from Berlin!

There are definitely flights from Ulan Ude to Nizhneangarsk by antique AN-24 but quite irregular. What dates are you interested in? Riding along the Baikal is a risky individual enterprise - I have read a report in Russian

Hi,

thank you very much for your reply!! We are planning to be around Baikal in late December, around the 29th! What is so dangerous about Baikal??

Best wishes from Berlin! Smile

Baikal is a lake, and frozen lake is not at all as flat as an autobahn between Berlin and Dresden (which I experienced in 1992). A person who has described his journey did not manage to pass along the lake in his car during day time - and had to return.

According to tutu.ru there will be morning flights from Ulan Ude to Nizhneangarsk December 29 and 30 at 08.30.
I have been in those places 32 years ago...
